The Origin of Mr. Grieves Revealed... Finally! The cat is out of the bag! The origin of Mr. Grieves is revealed... finally! It's a heart-riveting tale about a small monkey from space who grows up to be... well, bitter and flatulent. What can I say? You will learn about his true identity, where he came from, where he went to school, and so much useless information it'll make your head spin. Don't miss it!

Second Edition of A Perfect Moment

apm_coverBack in 1995, I completed my second novel at the age of 24 and went through the process of trying to find an agent or publisher. Frustrated by my responses, and being young and naive and motivated, I started my own publishing imprint: Mutt Press. With the help of my now brother-in-law Chris, who worked as a pressman, I created a proof of my novel and he worked his magic. A couple of weeks later, I had beautifully bound copies of my novel: A Perfect Moment.

Several local bookstores carried my novel. I received great reviews. And I'll never forget a packed Deep Eddy Books where I read the first chapter to an enthusiastic crowd which culminated in a drunken after-party at the Deep Eddy Cabaret next door. Good times!

mr_cover_bigI wrote and illustrated MIA RYAN AND HER FEARLESS CAT, ANGEL-BOY in: Tea, Cupcakes, and the Great Ant Famine for my daughter Mia when she was 3 because I was disappointed in a lot of the books she had at the time. I thought I could do a better job myself. When I finished writing it, I had it bound and the pages laminated so she could color the illustrations.

It was not a project I intended for publication. But after a few of my friends with kids of their own read it, they wanted copies for their kids. So I'm proud to announce the paperback and eBook versions of this children's story. I hope you and your kids enjoy reading it together.

Here's the synopsis:

Mia Ryan and her cat Angel-Boy were enjoying their tea party when all of a sudden one of the cupcakes sprouted legs and ran out of the house. After chasing the cupcake, Mia Ryan learns about the Great Ant Famine from her newest little friend Anthony the Ant. Read about the choices Mia Ryan makes to help Anthony and the rest of his friends.

mobipocketlogoI've followed the evolution of eReaders and eBooks for a while. But they never really got me excited until the Amazon Kindle came out. That is a pretty cool device and delivery service. I converted my novel to the Kindle format. But I personally do not own a Kindle. I do own a Blackberry Pearl though. And I carry that sucker wherever I go. Having something to read while I'm waiting in line or waiting for my kids at their appointments would be awesome. Don't get me wrong, reading CNN.com on my Blackberry is great. But sometimes I want to reread some Bukowski books. Or Franz Kafka.

After researching some different eBook readers for Blackberries, I'm proud to say that I'm very impressed with the Mobipocket eBook Reader. In fact, I'm obsessed with it! SMILEYS_nerdalert Anyway, you can download books to your Blackberry through your computer or through WiFi or your data plan. You can customize your reading experience by changing margins, line spacing, full text justification, font color, background color, etc. You can annotate, bookmark, highlight, any part of any eBook. Awesome! And you can download and redownload books from your personal library at any time. Pretty friggin' cool! It's a sweet app for your Blackberry. But more importantly, Mobipocket is not just for Blackberries; you can get versions for your PC, Palm, Windows Mobile, and more.

Once you get it, cruise over to the Mobipocket eBook store and get your version of The Meteoric Rise of Simon Burchwood. My novel on-the-go at a great price. Please support independent publishing!

Modicum

Coming Soon!

ModicumThis collection of short stories, musings, and cartoons by writer / cartoonist Scott Semegran explores such themes as suicide, parenting, religion, masculinity, the apocalypse, and, most importantly, erections. It’s guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, and pee your pants (hopefully, not at the same time).

Praise for Modicum:

"Funny, sweet, dark, and sad, Scott Semegran's comics and short stories create a wholly convincing world of love, loss, and fear. His light touch with heavy subjects is a gift, and his forays into silliness are a delight. I can't tell if his kids should read it as soon as possible, or never." - Emily Flake, cartoonist and author of LuLu Eightball

"Hilarious, poignant, twisted... and those are just the stories. Scott Semegran's cartoons bring an added one-two visceral punch to a powerful collection of work." - Davy Rothbart, author of The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas and publisher of FOUND Magazine

Reviews for Modicum:

Mr. Grieves

mg_largeMr. Grieves started as a poke at human nature through the use of talking, narcissistic animals. It has evolved into a full-on assault to your funny bone. Where else will you find rats fighting over cubicles, camels worrying about aging, a parrot talking to aliens, and a lonely water snail longing for a friend? Welcome to the world of Mr. Grieves!
